I began writing as a way to process the profound grief of losing my mother—my confidante, cheerleader, and friend. At first the idea was to just to remember her, but the simple memories soon became a meditation on her strong influence in shaping me, her encouragement to immigrate to the U.S. to pursue a PhD and carve out a life on my own terms. What began as a coping mechanism has become a journey of deep self-discovery, mirroring the complexity and wonder I find in cancer research.
